Glossary of Train her well Terms

Helplessness means that she is helpless to change her behavior and still maintain her slavery. This is because she has made a "choice decision" that allows her Master to own her choices.  Yes, she could change her behavior to one that is not her Master's wishes, but would be outside her slavery and the "choice decision" she has made.  She is "helpless" to change her behavior because how she behaves is determined by her Master.

Obedience means for BDSM lifestyle purposes the whole mind and body of the slave submitting to the will of her Master and his rules. Obedience has to be learned, expanded and practiced in order for her to become an effective slave.

Socialization is the way individuals learn skills, knowledge, values, motives and roles appropriate to their position in a group or society.   Re-socialization of a slave involves teaching new skills, values, setting goals, providing motivations, and molding her to the role of slave. Re-socialization always involves a teacher, a learning process, a person to be socialized and something that is learned.

Voice training is training the slave to speak in the pattern and inflection that her Master finds desirable and is befitting her position as his slave.  This pattern may change depending on the MODE she is placed into by her Master.

Training collars, shock collars or remote trainers

Training collars can be activated by a handheld device. Better quality remote trainers have a large variety of levels and functions, can give varying duration of stimulation, better quality stimulation, and have a beep or vibration option useful for getting the slave’s attention. Proper slave training is an imperative for remote collar use, as misuse can cause negative behavioral fallout. Many recommend consulting a BDSM training professional who is experienced with shock collars for successful usage and application. But there are DVDs available and websites that give "step-by-step" instructions for proper use that can also be followed.
Shock collars may be used in conjunction with positive reinforcement and / or utilizing other principles of operant conditioning, depending on the trainer's methods either as a form of positive punishment, where the shock is applied at the moment an undesired behavior occurs, in order to reduce the frequency of that behavior; or as a form of negative reinforcement, where a continuous stimulation is applied until the moment a desired behavior occurs, in order to increase the frequency of that behavior.
Some trainers use a low level of shock as a marker and pair it with a reward, making the collar a conditioned reinforcer, similar to clicker training. Some shock collars include vibration or tone-only settings, which can be used as a "neutral stimulus" for most dogs. A special application exists for the positive reinforcement and marker training of deaf dogs. This happens when the training is to "pair the mild shock produced by the collar with food and other rewards. As a consequence, the shock can then be used to reinforce desirable behaviors conditionally in much the same manner as applying other common conditioned reinforcers (e.g. "Good")

Extinction is the conditioning phenomenon in which a previously learned response to a cue is eliminated when the cue is presented in the absence of the previously paired aversive (unpleasant) or appetitive (pleasant) stimulus.

Extinction is typically studied within the Pavlovian fear conditioning framework in which extinction refers to the reduction in a conditioned response (CR; e.g., fear response/freezing) when a conditioned stimulus (CS; e.g., neutral stimulus/light or tone) is repeatedly presented in the absence of the unconditioned stimulus (US; e.g., foot shock/loud noise) with which it has been previously paired.

Successful extinction procedures

In order for extinction to work effectively, it must be done consistently. Extinction is considered successful when responding in the presence of an extinction stimulus (a red light or a teacher not giving a bad student attention, for instance) is zero. When a behavior reappears again after it has gone through extinction, it is called resurgence.

The simplest explanation of extinction is that as the CS is presented without the aversive US, the animal gradually "unlearns" the CS–US association which is known as the associative loss theory. However, this explanation is complicated by observations where there is some fear restoration, such as reinstatement (restoration of CR in the context where extinction training occurred but not a different context after aversive US is presented again), renewal (restoration of CR in context A but not in B when learning occurred in context A and extinction in context B), and spontaneous recovery (restoration of CR when the retention test occurs after a long but not a short delay after extinction training) and alternative explanations have been offered.[1]
Research on fear extinction in animal models (typically rats) has clinical implications such as exposure-based therapies for the treatment of phobias and anxiety conditions.

Freezing behavior slave conditioning is the fearful reaction to specific stimuli, most commonly observed in animals but can be conditioned in a slave with Pavlovian techniques or with Pavlovian conditioning. Freeze conditioning in a slave is a very useful tool for a Master. It causes the slave to react in a certain way to restrictions that prevent the slave from breaking those restrictions. It is caused by the sympathetic nervous system to deal with threats. Studies typically assess a conditioned freezing behavior response to stimuli that typically or innately do not cause fear, such as a tone or shock. Freezing behavior is most easily characterized by changes in blood pressure and lengths of time in crouching position, but it also is known to cause changes such as shortness of breath, increased heart rate, sweating, or choking sensation.[1] However, since it is difficult to measure these sympathetic responses to fear stimuli, studies are typically confined to simple crouching times. A response to stimuli typically is said to be a "fight or flight", but can be shown as rather "fright, fight or flight." In addition, freezing is observed to occur before a fight or flight response.

As if Conditioning If a slave "early on in her training" is made to act like a trained slave "through hypnosis" and "mind control", "altered perception" etc. she becomes more accustomed to it and she gradually comes to accept slavery as natural part of her.  Training techniques such as "slave modes" automatically puts the slave in a certain protocol and requiring the slave to present as she enters the room, speech modifications, position training, learning and adapting to rules are all examples of behavior modification and become second nature to her.  In short, during training a slave is required to act "as if" she is a trained slave.

Attitude is a combination of learned beliefs and feelings that effect behavior.  In addition, it has been shown that changing behavior (acting "as if")  can change attitudes.   Attitudes are set within our private logic.  Private logic is the way we see ourselves, others and life and is our personal philosophy that our lifestyle is based upon. Attitude is defined as a predisposition to respond to a particular object in a generally favorable or unfavorable way.  Attitude is influenced by the way we perceive and respond to the world and is acquired through learning.

Abrasion Dictionary term meaning a wearing, grinding, or rubbing away by friction.  In BDSM play this  would See also stimulating the surface of the body with abrasive materials such as rough silk, leather, brushes, etc.

Anal Beads A set of strung beads used to insert into the anus to stimulate the anal nerves as foreplay or to cause orgasm.

Self Image is the way in which we view ourselves.  The training should be geared to creating a positive self-image in being a slave owned by her Master.   A positive self-image of herself as a slave is critical to her training.

Anal Play This is generally play where the anus may be penetrated with either beads, ice, dildos, anal plugs, or penis.   Rimming the anus with a finger or toys stimulates the nerves which can create a more intense orgasm.  Inserting and playing with one's anus will cause increased orgasm.

Anal Plug (See also: Dildo Vibrator )   A specially designed dildo for use in the anus that is shaped in a way so that it will not "fall out". Most commonly inserted and left in the anus for a given amount of time. Also used for "ass training" to stretch out the anus and get one accustomed to having something in their ass.

Anal Sex - (See also: Rimming ) Any sexual activity involving the anus. Examples are; rimming (oral), Butt / Anal Plugs, Dildos, and penile penetration.

Resistance is classified as internal or external.  Internal resistance is an attempt by the slave to retreat from her Master’s efforts to explore and alter behavior or beliefs. External resistance can be caused by anxiety about being dependent or close to another person.
Animal Role Playing - Games in which one or more partners, usually the bottom, takes on the role of an animal. Most common is probably a dog, or puppy though horses are also popular. The 'animal' may imitate animal behavior, wear items such as collars, leads, bridles and so on, or carry out tasks associated with animal behavior.

Arm / Leg Sleeves -  Play which involves binding the arms/legs of the submissive in an attempt to restrict mobility.

Aromas -  (See also: Hot Oils ) Play which involves the use of certain aroma therapy to induce relaxation.   Also referred to as "poppers". In some instances these can be volatile compounds whose vapors cause temporarily increased heart and breathing rates, muscle relaxation, and a "rushing" feeling in the head. These types of play are popular in the gay and rave scenes, and often used in an S/m context. There are some dangers associated with their use.

Auctioned for Charity - (See also: Competitions) Involves play where the partner (usually the submissive) is auctioned off to others for charitable purposes and or services to another.
